YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — A Marysville man was killed by a suspected DUI driver in a crash Monday near Olivehurst.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8 p.m. in Yuba County along Feather River Boulevard north of Murphy Road. The crash involved four vehicles.
A BMW was heading southbound on Feather River Boulevard with its hazard lights flashing. A white Nissan Altima was directly behind the BMW.
A Honda CRV was heading southbound in the northbound lane to pass the BMW and the Altima.
A Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound behind all three cars and tried to pass them by driving between the CRV and the Altima, sideswiping the Altima and the BMW in the process.
The Corolla rear-ended the CRV, which went down a ditch embankment and collided with a concrete block culvert. The driver of the CRV died at the scene and his identity hasn't been released.
The driver of the Corolla, identified as 50-year-old Larry Lee Anderson Jr. of Plumas Lake, left the scene. Anderson was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, among other charges.
There were three people in the Nissan Altima including a 29-year-old woman, a 13-year-old teenager and a four-year-old child, all from Modesto. The driver of the BMW was a 35-year-old man from Olivehurst.
CHP said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
