The story of a local 12-year-old has captivated the imagination of many since finding a chest full of her belongings during a home renovation a century after her death.
May Hollister Woolsey died on September 21, 1879. A hundred years later in 1979, a chest full of her personal items were found when homeowners were doing a renovation and knocked out a stairwell, and discovered a small steamer trunk lodged behind a false wall.
Over the years, people have said they have seen the spirit of the young girl lingering around her grave site at the Old City Cemetery in Sacramento.
