A CHP officer run over along I-80 in Sacramento County on Thursday was hit intentionally, according to investigators.

Officer Michael Ericson, 47 years old and a 17-year veteran of the CHP, served with the Sacramento area CHP office. CHP investigators believe the evidence shows Ericson was intentionally run over by a truck.

Officer Ericson has a long recovery road ahead, and will need more surgeries for his injuries. He is currently in critical condition, and is being monitored in the ICU. No other information about his condition has been released.

Austin Scott was arrested a short time after Thursday's incident in Fairfield after a chase. He is currently in the Sacramento County Jail facing several charges including attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs, vehicle theft and evading police.

The white construction company truck he was ultimately arrested in was stolen. The truck was left running with the doors locked, and according to CHP, Scott broke into the white truck and took off.

Anyone with information about the accident is encouraged to call CHP at (916) 861-1300 to reach investigators.
