SACRAMENTO, Calif. — There are some new rules in Sacramento County as far fireworks are concerned.
Sacramento County leaders adopted an ordinance Tuesday making some changes to the regulations and bans for fireworks sales, use and fines.
Among the changes is a shorter window for fireworks sales. The new window starts at noon on June 28 and continues through the end of July 4. Previously, noon wasn't mentioned for the starting date and the final day was July 5.
Another change is a ban on using fireworks between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. through the duration of the new sales period. This ban includes state-approved fireworks.
Fines for schools and all parks were enhanced as well to the following:
- $1,000 for the first violation
- $2,500 for the second violation within one year of the first violation;
- $5,000 for each additional violation within one year of the first violation;
- $10,000 for each violation that occurs within the American River Parkway, all parks and all schools
The last change focuses on proper disposal of fireworks. The county has mandated information about the safe disposal of fireworks be provided at the point of sale.
The changes follow several illegal fireworks taskforce meetings between November 2023 and February 2024.
