New 'Folsom Ranch' project causing debate

There's lots of mixed emotions on the new development south of Highway 50.

"It'll follow the similar place and process as other areas of Folsom," said Ian Cornell, Folsom Ranch.

The project is called Folsom Ranch and a billboard for it went up last week on Scott Road.

"I think it's great," said Donna Day. "I like to see new things coming in. I think it's fine."

Though there are people for the project, there are others who have expressed concerns about traffic, water, and expansion.

"Just the traffic," said Karthick Siva, who works in Folsom. "I think it's gonna double of traffic."

There was a lot of talk on Facebook and ABC10 took those concerns to Cornell, one of those conserns included availability of water.

"In 2004, voters in the city of Folsom passed Measure W which dictated the plan area which we're standing on now had to find and develop the water supply which has been done," said Cornell. "There is plenty of water to service this area as well as the city of Folsom."

According to developers, about 10,000 homes will be built and 8,000 jobs created.

"Two things to keep in mind we're talking about a process that will evolve in the next 15 to 20 to 25 years just like any other area that builds out," said Cornell. "The plan area in the city of Folsom has developed a backbone structure of feeder roads."

As for jobs, Folsom Chamber of Commerce and Greater Folsom Partnership are looking to get some kind of major corporate campus site.

However, some are a little skeptical of the change in view. Developers say they're going to keep some of the open spaces, but ultimately it's also going to look a lot more like the other side of the highway once its all finished in a couple of decades.
