Fire destroys multiple apartments in North Highlands area

Nobody was hurt in the fire but multiple people will need a new place to live.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. — A fire destroyed multiple apartments in the North Highlands area on Friday morning.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the fire happened in the 4000 block of Lexington Crossing Lane around 6 a.m. Fire crews put out the fire after calling for more help.

"They had heavy fire coming off at least three units. That fire was spreading very rapidly with the intensity and the radiant heat, so much so that it actually started melting the siding on a building adjacent too," said Sacramento Metro Fire Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn.

The fire was limited to one building, with at least three units having "major damage," Wilbourn said.

There were no injuries, but multiple people are displaced.

"We had several priorities on this incident, the first being making sure everybody was out safely. We know it's dark, people are still asleep at the time. We want to make sure they're out," said Wilbourn.
