NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. — A man is suspected of stabbing and killing 60-year-old Antonio Manning on Oct. 8 in North Highlands, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
Michael Xavier Bell, 36, of Los Angeles County was arrested on suspicion of killing Manning.
In the announcement of the arrest, Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones said Bell is well known to law enforcement.
“Unfortunately we have suffered yet another victim in the wake of criminal justice “reforms” from a violent, prolific offender that should not have been out of prison. We have to get back to a place in this State where victims matter, and protection of the public is prioritized over emptying our prisons and eliminating consequences for offenders," Jones wrote in a statement.
Bell is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail in the death of Manning and $1 million dollar bail for resisting an officer.
On Oct. 8, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance in the 6300 block of Whitecliff Way. Deputies performed a welfare check and found a man suffering from stab wounds. He died at the scene.
Anyone with information on the homicide can call investigators at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
