SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man died Monday after being hit by a train in East Sacramento.
Just after 3 p.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of Elvas Avenue for a report of a Union Pacific Railroad train striking a pedestrian, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
Union Pacific said in a statement one of its trains struck and killed the man near the intersection of Elvas Avenue and 36th Way.
He sustained life-threatening injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The train crew was not hurt, and the incident did not happen at a crossing, according to Union Pacific.
The collision remains under investigation. The victim has not been identified yet.
