RIO LINDA, Calif. — A 15-year-old is facing murder charges in the deadly shooting of a 17-year-old in 2023, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said in a Tuesday update.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Amar Gandhi said a 15-year-old was arrested a day after the shooting happened on gun charges but is now formally being accused of murder charges.
The identity of the 15-year-old hasn't been released. He was originally arrested Sept. 19.
The shooting happened Monday, Sept. 18, 2023 in the 6900 block of 22nd Street between Elkhorn Boulevard and Q Street.
The sheriff's office received reports of a shooting around 2:15 a.m. A 17-year-old was shot at least once in front of a home on 22nd Street, according to Gandhi.
It's not clear what led up to the shooting.
