Increased security at Valley High School in Sacramento after 7 students arrested in fight

Seven students were arrested and taken to juvenile hall. The sheriff's office said another student was cited and released.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — There will be more security this week after several students were arrested following a fight at Valley High School in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a fight on campus. Seven students were arrested and taken to juvenile hall. The sheriff's office said another student was cited and released.

"The admin did an excellent job keeping all students and staff safe. Safety and Security will have an increased presence on campus for both today and tomorrow," Lisa Levasseur, the executive director of school support said in a statement to ABC10.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said school staff was assaulted, but uninjured while trying to break up the fight. It's unclear how many of the students will be charged, but Gandhi said charges include inciting a riot, felony assault and resisting arrest.

The students' names haven't been released because they're minors, according to the sheriff's office.

It's not clear how the fight started or if there are any injuries from the fight.
