Sacramento County approves new budget at $8.8 billion

31 vacant positions were dropped.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Sacramento County trimmed its budget by about $6 million, in part by dropping 31 vacant positions.

The Board of Supervisors approved the $8.8 billion budget for fiscal year 2024-25 Wednesday.

Health services and Child, Family and Adult Services both saw reductions. For Health Services their reductions totaled about $2.2 million and included the removal of 14 vacant positions. Child, Family and Adults Services saw 16 vacant positions drop and a reduction of $1.8 million.

However, some areas saw some increases as well.

Health Services increased by $28.4 million for acute psychiatric inpatient costs, behavioral health bridge housing funding and increased capacity and services at Permanent Supportive Housing units and Behavioral Health Services at the Youth Detention Facility.

Child, Family and Adult Services increased by $5.7 million for services at the Child Protective Services Welcome and Assessment Center and court-mandated parenting workshops at the family resource center.

The sheriff's office saw a boost of about $3.9 million, Correction Health Services saw an increase of $3.9 million and Community Development and Homeless Services and Housing both saw a boost of around $1 million, respectively.

The board also supported a three-year funding commitment to the Black Child Legacy Campaign in future budget recommendations through Fiscal Year 2026-27.

In total, the approved budget was $8.8 billion with $3.8 billion in the General Fund, $3.5 billion in Enterprise and Special Revenue, and $1.5 billion in restricted funds.
