Sacramento man arrested, accused of sex crimes with minor

Corey Jeffery Johnson, 28, was arrested and accused of sex crimes with a 3-year-old and child pornography possession.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A man was arrested and booked into jail Friday in connection with sex crimes against minors, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies began an investigation into Corey Jeffery Johnson, 28, in spring 2021, the sheriff’s office said on X, formerly Twitter.

Between May and July 2021, the sheriff’s office received multiple CyberTips pertaining to internet uploads of child sexual abuse material to multiple Dropbox and Google accounts, deputies said. Johnson appeared to be the accounts’ user, according to law enforcement.

“It was determined that Johnson had left California shortly after the CyberTips were received, and he was later determined to be residing in Louisiana and then Texas; however, his exact whereabouts were unknown,” the sheriff’s office said.

In January 2024, Johnson was contacted by a deputy, and a search warrant was served at a residence where Johnson was temporarily staying, the sheriff’s office said.

Johnson reportedly told law enforcement he was planning on moving out of California again and had only temporarily returned, according to deputies. He was allegedly in possession of two cellphones.

Deputies said over 600 videos of child sex abuse material and hundreds of images and videos of sexualized children were discovered on the devices, according to the sheriff’s office. Some material allegedly involved toddler-aged children.

Johnson allegedly admitted to sexually abusing a 3-year-old child, deputies said.

Deputies said the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Johnson for child pornography possession, lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 by the use of force, violence, duress, menace or fear and drug possession.

Sacramento County Main Jail records show Johnson faces one felony count of lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 by the use of force, violence, duress, menace or fear, and his bail is set at $200,000.

He is expected to appear Monday morning in Sacramento County Superior Court.

Johnson allegedly stayed with numerous families and had access to numerous children in Sacramento County, in Iberville Parish in Louisiana and in Tarrant County in Texas, law enforcement said.

Detectives seek the public’s assistance in locating any possible victims that may have been contacted by Johnson.

Relevant information can be reported to the sheriff’s office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips leading to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, and tipsters remain anonymous.

Tips are paid in cash, and no one asks for identification.

This investigation was a combined effort by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the Citrus Heights Police Department, the Sacramento County Probation Department, and the Internet Crimes Against Children unit of the sheriff’s office’s Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, deputies said.
