SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento driver was hit and killed by a car-hauling truck Thursday night after they attempted to confront another truck driver, said California Highway Patrol officials.
According to officials, a witness saw the driver of a Dodge was swerving on southbound Interstate 80 before sideswiping a car-hauling truck. The impact of the Dodge was so minor the car-hauling truck may not have felt it, they said.
When the 47-year-old Dodge driver came to a complete stop in front of another truck, CHP officials said he got out of his car to confront the truck driver on his driver side window when they were on southbound highway 99 north of 12th Avenue around 8:02 p.m.
CHP says a witness then saw the car-hauling truck speed up to go around the Dodge, hitting and running over the Dodge driver with its rear trailer tires. The witness was unable to obtain the other driver's license plate because he stopped to help the man who was hit.
The man was transported to the hospital conscious and alert, but later died from his injuries during surgery according to the Sacramento County Coroner.
Officials are looking for a car-hauler with no cage above the cab of the truck. CHP officials in South Sacramento are asking any other witnesses to the incident or the party involved driving the car-hauler to contact them at (916) 861-1299 or (916) 897-5600.
