'Difficult decision': Sacramento Golden Road Brewing location closes

The brewery, which opened May 2018, closed suddenly after six years in operation.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Golden Road Brewing on L Street in midtown Sacramento permanently closed Monday.

The chain brewery and restaurant, owned by Anheuser-Busch, suddenly shut its doors after six years, according to a spokesperson for Golden Road. The brewery opened May 2018.

Craig Weiner is the general manager for Golden Road. He said the company is tremendously grateful to the Sacramento community for its support of the brewpub.

“The difficult decision to close the Golden Road Sacramento Brewpub reflects the current operating realities facing the entire restaurant and hospitality industry, and we are committed to supporting our people through this transition,” Weiner said.

Golden Road was founded in 2011 in Los Angeles by Meg Gill, according to the company's website. Its headquarters are in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. Golden Road still has locations in Los Angeles, Anaheim and Huntington Beach.

Anheuser-Busch bought Golden Road in 2015 to launch national distribution, the website said.

The bright blue outdoor brewery that previously offered firepit seating, heaters and cornhole stands closed at the southwest corner of the intersection at L and 19th streets.
