SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A motion was filed Monday to keep Camp Resolution open amid the possibility of it closing.
Camp Resolution is a homeless encampment at Colfax Street and the Arden-Garden Connector in North Sacramento. It was set up in the fall of 2022 as a self-governing camp. While there were plans from the city to end their lease, agreements were made and people were allowed to stay on the property until they were put into permanent housing.
However, Safe Ground Sacramento, the organization leasing the property, said it's ending its agreement Aug. 10 due to lack of water and electricity, liability insurance issues and more.
The Sacramento Homeless Union filed the motion to keep the site open as Safe Ground Sacramento's lease end date nears.
The union said it's expecting the Sacramento County Superior Court to set a hearing on its motion this week.
The City of Sacramento provided the following statement below.
The City of Sacramento is aware of the Sacramento Homeless Union’s recent ex parte application to Sacramento Superior Court seeking to enjoin the City from closing Camp Resolution.
The lease agreement involving Camp Resolution at 2225 Colfax St. is between the City and Safe Ground Sacramento. The people currently staying at the site are guests of Safe Ground Sacramento and not the City. Pursuant to the lease agreement, Safe Ground Sacramento is required to “peaceably vacate the premises” and deliver the site “vacant of all guests” upon termination of the lease.
Safe Ground Sacramento has elected to terminate the lease effective Aug. 10, 2024. The City continues to call upon Safe Ground Sacramento to work with its guests and fulfill the requirements set forth under the terms of the lease agreement.
ABC10 also reached out to the attorney for Safe Ground Sacramento, but the inquiry was not immediately returned.
