SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 41-year-old man died while in custody at Sacramento County's Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center Friday night, sheriff's office officials said.
Around 11:15 p.m., Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say they were alerted by an inmate worker about another inmate needing medical assistance. When they got to the locked cell, deputies found the man unresponsive.
Deputies pulled the inmate outside of the cell and tried to give first aid. Medical staff and firefighters were called to the jail and pronounced the inmate dead.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating and that the Cornonr's Office will determine the cause of death, eventually forwarding its findings.
Officials say the man had been in custody since March 28. He was first arrested by Sacramento Police officers on a felony warrant.
