SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento sushi chef is in the running for a prestigious culinary award.
Buu "Billy" Ngo, the chef and founder of Kru, was announced as a finalist for a James Beard Award in their 'Best Chef: California' category.
The award is a prestigious honor in the culinary world given to people who create exceptional food, food media content and better food systems.
'The Best Chef: California' category itself is one of five separate recognition programs for the awards. It recognizes chefs who set high standards in their skills, leadership abilities and make efforts toward a sustainable work culture.
He's up against Geoff Davis of Burdell in Oakland, Rogelio Garcia of Auro in Calistoga, Lord Maynard Llera of Kuya Lord in Los Angeles, and Tara Monsod of Animae in San Diego.
