Sacramento County opening warming centers over Thanksgiving weekend

Sacramento County officials recently announced the opening of warming centers this weekend to help residents combat dropping temperatures.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Low wind chill temperatures are prompting Sacramento County officials to open its weather warming centers this Thanksgiving weekend.

In coordination with the Department of Homeless Services and Housing and First Step Communities, 35 beds will be available at the North A Emergency Shelter at 1400 North A Street starting Friday at 4:30 p.m. until Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Walk-ups will be accepted at the North A Emergency Shelter, but pets are not supported.

The Department of Human Assistance will open a warming center nightly starting Saturday at 7 p.m. through Monday at 7 a.m. at 1725 28th Street. Water and snacks will be available at this location.

Sacramento city officials are also opening a warming shelter at the Outreach and Engagement Center at 3615 Auburn Blvd. from Friday at 8 p.m. through Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Walk-ups will also be accepted at this location and up to 50 guests can be accommodated, including pets.
