Sacramento Republic FC facing Seattle Sounders in US Open Cup quarterfinals | Need to know

The U.S. Open Cup started with 96 teams in March and is now down to the final eight.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC is facing off against the Seattle Sounders FC on Tuesday at Heart Health Park.

The two teams will clash in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. The match starts at 8 p.m. and Republic FC, the 2022 U.S. Open Cup runner-up, has the home-field advantage.

The U.S. Open Cup started with 96 teams in March and is now down to the final eight.

This is the second time Republic FC has appeared in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. The Sounders are a four-time champion, winning the U.S. Open Cup from 2009-2011 and again in 2014, according to U.S. Soccer.

Republic FC beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-3 on May 21 to advance to the quarterfinals.

After the victory, there were concerns that the quarterfinal match wouldn't be able to happen at Cal Expo because of preparations for the California State Fair, which begins on July 12. It was later announced the match would happen at Heart Health Park.

If Republic FC beats the Major League Soccer team out of Seattle, they'll advance to the semifinal rounds set to happen on August 27 or 28. They would play the winner of Los Angeles FC vs. New Mexico United.
