Investigation finds Sacramento City Councilmember Sean Loloee's primary residence is District 2

Questions about Sean Loloee's residency came after the Sacramento Bee said it appeared he was sworn in to represent Del Paso Heights at his wife's Granite Bay home.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An investigation into the residence of Sacramento City Councilmember Sean Loloee found he lives in the same district he represents.

Questions about Loloee's residency came after a Sacramento Bee report said it appeared Councilmember Loloee was sworn in to represent Del Paso Heights on the Sacramento City Council at his wife's $1.4 million Granite Bay home, rather than a house on Nogales Street in the Hagginwood neighborhood.

Following the report, Mayor Darrell Steinberg released a statement on June 22 asking Councilmember Loloee to provide him, the city manager, and the city attorney with a report clarifying the facts of his residency.

The investigation was done by Melinda Guzman who is a local attorney not affiliated with Loloee or the city council. She was chosen by the Sacramento City Attorney.

Guzman found that the North Sacramento home is Loloee's primary residence.

“I believe the public, and most importantly, the District 2 constituency, can rely on the accuracy of these findings, particularly because the legal standard used by Ms. Guzman is the same standard that the California Attorney General would use in such a review,” Sacramento City Attorney Alcala Wood said in a statement.

Loloee released a statement Wednesday thanking people who withheld judgment during the investigation.

"With these distractions behind us, we can now move forward with restoring our local economy, investing in our commercial corridors, and combatting our homelessness crisis," the statement says.

Kathy Anuszcyk, a school teacher and president of the Hagginwood Community Association, was among those who asked for the investigation. With the results, she wants to set the focus on moving forward.

"He will be our councilman for the next two years, so let’s move forward. OK. we’ve got that question answered. Let’s move forward. Let’s be constructive," Anuszcyk said. "I’m a school teacher. I’m like come on everybody, let’s not argue, let’s move on."

Loloee previously held a press conference where he said he's allowing a family friend to live as a guest in his Hagginwood home.

"I have allowed a close friend of mine of 16 years and his family to stay with me as my guest because I have fallen on hard times due to COVID," Loloee said this summer. "I shared this information with the mayor when I first invited the mayor into my home."

The investigation found Loloee's primary residence has been in Del Paso Heights since March 2019 and has not had another primary residence. According to the findings, Loloee did not shelter in place with his family during the pandemic.

The city of Sacramento website states that any member of the public who wishes to run for public office must, "be a registered voter and a resident within the district the candidate seeks to represent for not less than 30 days preceding the date of filing candidate papers."
