Sacramento artist Victoria Monét featured on Star Wars ‘The Acolyte’ soundtrack

Monét’s song, “Power of Two,” played in the credits of the show’s seventh episode. She said she’s “thrilled” for people to see how it ties into the storyline.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The finale of Star Wars’ “The Acolyte” premieres Tuesday night on Disney+ and the show has a harmonious connection to Sacramento.

The show ends with its eighth episode, but Sacramento artist Victoria Monét’s original single, “Power of Two,” was featured last week in the credits of its seventh episode.

The song was co-written by Monét, Oscar and Grammy award-winning producer D’Mile, and Emmy-nominated composer Michael Abels, according to a news release on the official Star Wars website.

Monét, 35, has three Grammy awards among 10 nominations.

“Having my song be a part of the classic Star Wars franchise via The Acolyte is such an honor, and I’m thrilled for everyone to hear it when they see how it ties into the overall storyline,” Monét said. "D’Mile and I had a great time making the song and hope the world loves it as much as we do.”

Monét was born in Georgia, but moved to Sacramento as a child, according to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). She was reportedly fascinated with performing arts, sang in youth choir, formed her own dance drill team in junior high and by high school developed a demanding rehearsal schedule teaching at two different dance studios.

Her song, “Power of Two,” is themed to the story of the main characters: Osha and Mae Aniseya, twins both played by Amandla Stenberg, who identifies as nonbinary.

The twins have a turbulent relationship, which is worsened by Jedi and Sith influences.

The finale of “The Acolyte” premieres 6 p.m. Tuesday, or catch it after streaming on Disney+.
