Police investigating after woman found dead in Sacramento | Update

The police department closed North 12th Street between Sproule Avenue and North B Street.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Police Department is investigating after a woman was found dead Tuesday. 

Sacramento police got a call around 6 a.m. for reports of a fight in the 1300 block of North C Street near Loaves and Fishes. When officers arrived, they found a woman on the ground, according to Sgt. Dan Wiseman, a spokesperson for the police department.

The woman had at least one puncture wound, according to the police department. the woman died at the scene. Detectives are investigating her death as a homicide. The woman's name hasn't been released.

Loaves and Fishes released a statement saying the entire campus closed unexpectedly Tuesday for the first time in 41 years.

"What we can say is that this guest is known and loved throughout our campus community. She was a regular at Maryhouse, Friendship Park, and our Dining Room. It is here that she was seen and heard; we laughed & cried with her more times than we can count. She will be missed," Loaves and Fishes wrote in a statement.

Loaves and Fishes said it will be open tomorrow.

The police department closed North 12th Street between Sproule Avenue and North B Street from about 7 a.m. until about 12:45 p.m. 

There is no information on a potential suspect and no one has been arrested.
