If you live in Sacramento you are probably familiar with the light rail, but you're probably not familiar with the 26th Street rail line. That's because its hidden underground.
The trains take passengers and cargo to a half dozen cities. To catch a ride, you have to know the engineer.
"Since we started it's gone through seven major changes," said 26th Street Model Railroad Club president Keith Brownfield.
The model trains in Keith Brownfield's basement will take you to about a half dozen made up towns. Brownsfield and about a dozen of his buddies started building this model train world in 1992.
Brownfield's love for switching tracks started at a young age.
.
"Dad used to take me to the railroad track in LA," The 87-year-old said.
Interest in trains led Brownfield to a job with the railroad where he learn the hard truth about life on the tracks.
Brownsfield sayid he eventually quit the railroad and took a job with Cal-Trans. After that he moved his train obsession indoors. These days, a rail yard isn't as reliable as it used to be and neither is Brownsfield's hands.
Brownsfield says he is looking for some new engineers to take over. If you are interested in seeing the model train yard you can email him. RailroadOn26th@gmail.com
