SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is launching a customer service survey to help improve rider safety.
The survey, developed by the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University, is a statewide initiative to gather data on street harassment faced by public transit riders.
SacRT says it will conduct the survey at stations, on buses and on trains throughout October. People can also fill out the survey online here.
The survey is primarily focused on street harassment, which is words, gestures or actions directed at a person meant to be intimidating or threaten their safety.
Research shows harassment on transit systems is often underreported.
“Understanding the rider experience is essential to ensuring that all SacRT passengers feel safe when using public transportation,” said SacRT General Manager/CEO Henri Li in a statement.
Another state law requires SacRT to survey riders from underserved communities. The survey is offered in English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Anyone 18 years or older can take the survey. Those who fill it out will receive a $10 credit applied to their Connect Card or ZipPass account.
