"It has been 184 days...since he was taken from us," said Tara Porter.
On August 22, 2017, Terry McCauley was shot and killed at his North Highlands home. The 34-year-old was a father of four.
"It's hard for us to eat [or sleep]," said Porter, who is Terry's sister. "It's hard for us to walk around every day and smile through the pain."
On the six month anniversary of McCauley's murder, dozens of family and friends gathered at Tetotum Park in Antelope for a vigil. Porter spoke on her parents' behalf. She said they were too heartbroken to attend.
"We also think about his last minutes on earth." said Porter, reading a letter written by her parents. "That he was alone when he took his last breath."
In the letter, McCauley's parents said they felt he sent them a sign that someone would come forward with information regarding his murder.
"Shot to heart, you're so vain. You give love a bad name," sang Porter, who said "You Give Love A Bad Name" was her brother's favorite song.
"[We] haven't heard it in 20 years," said Porter, still reading from her parents' letter. "Terry was about 6,7 [years-old] and would sing loudly with such great passion every time it came on the radio.
Until the McCauley family get's justice, they're holding onto hope and finding strength in this quote:
"What is done in the dark will always come to light."
