SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One of the wettest storms for New Year's Eve on record for Sacramento was met with a flurry of power outages across the region. Power remains out for thousands.
According to the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, there are more than 14,000 customers without power in their area. This includes areas like Galt, Elk Grove, North Highlands, Oak Park, Florin, Downtown Sacramento, Carmichael and many more.
SMUD said crews worked overnight to restore power to as many people as possible, but there are still thousands of more customers to help. On Twitter, officials said that customers are without power at this time, it's "unlikely" power will be restored this evening.
This is in addition to hundreds of outages from the Sierra to the Bay Area for PG&E.
As of 11 a.m., there were 95,000 customer outages, including 39,000 outages in the Stockton Division, 30,000 in the Sacramento Division and nearly 12,000 in the Bay Area.
Flooding and road closures have restricted access to the crews in some of the highly impacted areas. As the flooding recedes, crews will continue restoring gas and power to communities.
PG&E expects another atmospheric river storm on Wednesday and Thursday with gusty winds and moderate to heavy rain.
