SACRAMENTO, Calif. — At least two people were hurt in a shooting Saturday, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.
Gunfire allegedly erupted around 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of a busy shopping center in the 4200 block of Florin Road, near Franklin Boulevard.
"Several gunshots were fired," said Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office. "We are on a Saturday afternoon. People are out here with their families, kids, wives, you know eating. This is a busy happy place and these guys have no regard for any of it and these criminals are doing what they're doing"
Deputies found one gunshot wound victim at the scene and medics took him to a hospital. Another man with gunshot wounds later showed up at a hospital, according to officials. Both are expected to survive their injuries.
Initially, authorities said there were three total victims but later corrected that information, saying that there are only two gunshot wound victims.
"There was some confusion from the hospital maybe that there was two victims, but turns out there was a total of two," said Gandhi. "So the one who walked in (to the hospital) and the one here (at the scene)."
The shooter or shooters are still at large. Officials say that despite the shooting happening in broad daylight at a busy location, only a few witnesses have come forward.
"You've got to be vigilant and if you are here, we can't catch these guys without your help so this is where we need the public's help. If you saw something, flag one of us down, call us," said Gandhi. "You can remain completely anonymous. You can even get cash rewards but we need help, we need public information. We want these guys off the street."
The few witnesses who have come forward in the shooting have given investigators conflicting information, Gandhi said.
"We're really kind of siphoning through all of that," said Gandhi. "We don't know what led up to it. We don't even know if they knew each other perse but we are pretty confident that obviously they're related."
Deputies blocked off a large perimeter within the shopping center's parking lot for much of the afternoon Saturday. Officials expected to re-open the area around 5 p.m.
"This isn't a T.V. episode, it's not CSI Miami where we can just you know, grab a pen and all of a sudden we got a result. These things take time and they are very thorough but we cast a wide net," said Gandhi. "We want to get as much information as we can. We want to get as much evidence as we can."
Witnesses can call detectives at 916-874-5115.
