SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Veterans Day is on Monday, Nov. 11 for people to celebrate those who’ve served the country.
While banks and the U.S. Postal Service will be taking a break on the day, there are plenty of other places people in Sacramento can visit on the day to honor veterans.
Here are a few of the planned celebrations:
Veterans Day Parade 2024
Where: Capitol Mall in front of the West Steps. The parade route will start on 9th Street head toward 10th Street go on the roundabout and head to 4th Street and turn back.
When: The parade is slated to start at 11 a.m.
What’s offered: Along with the parade, there will be dozens of booths and food trucks set up. Organizers say this year’s theme is mental health awareness. The parade is put on by the Veterans Affiliated Council.
Parking: Organizers provided the following parking suggestions:
L St. Lot on the south-west corner of L St. and 9 th Ave.
Capitol Garage at 1303 10th St. 95814 on the south-east corner of 10th St. and K St.
Capitol Place at 915 L. St., Sacramento, CA 95814 on L St. between 9 th and 10th Sts.
Metro Garage at 701 L St., Sacramento, CA 95814 on L St. between 7 th and 8 th Sts.
Veterans Day Open Cockpit
Where: Aerospace Museum of California 3200 Freedom Park Drive McClellan, CA 95652
When: 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
What’s offered: Attendees will be able to explore and learn about historic aircrafts, meet veterans, and participate in other family-friendly activities.

Admissions range from free to $17. Tickets can be purchased on the museum’s website.
West Sacramento Veterans Day Parade & Heroes Luncheon
Where: The parade goes from 1100 Clarendon Street to West Acre Road. Ending at Park and Stone Boulevard. Luncheon will be held at 905 Drever St. West Sacramento, CA 95691.
When: Parade starts at 11 a.m. Lunch immediately follows.
What’s offered: Put on by the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, all are welcome to the veterans parade and can stick around for the lunch offering a $12 meal. Veterans will be provided free meals (organizers ask people to bring their military IDs). Organizers say a bar will open at noon.
Elk Grove Veterans Day Parade
Where: 8820 Elk Grove Boulevard, Elk Grove, CA 95624
When: 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
What’s offered: Put on by the partnership of Cosumnes Community Service District and the Elk Grove American Legions. Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a reading of names to commemorate the men and women who’ve served.
The parade will take place at 11:11 a.m. starting at the Consumnes CSD Administration Building.
There will be a picnic immediately following the parade. There will be street closures around Elk Grove Blvd and Elk Grove-Florin Rd. Organizers advise people to arrive early.

Veterans Day Freedom Run
Where: Sutter’s Landing Park, Sacramento, CA 95816
When: Saturday Nov. 16th, runs start at 7:30 a.m.
What’s offered: Runners, or anyone looking to get moving, can participate in a variety of runs including a 5K, 10k or a half-marathon.
People interested can sign up for the run here. Price varies depending on which race you sign up for. All net proceeds go to a charity of your choice.
