WATCH: Coyote takes walk in Midtown Sacramento

A coyote spotted in Midtown Sacramento has people concerned but Fish and Wildlife officials say they are not that rare.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A Reddit user posted a video of a coyote taking a walk in Midtown Sacramento in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Supervisor Sue Frost shared the video to her Facebook page and said, "A coyote on a leisurely stroll through downtown Sacramento. It's always a shock for people when people see wildlife in downtown Sacramento -- but Sacramento is home to two rivers and an enormous greenbelt."

Fish and Wildlife officials tell ABC10 this is not rare this time of year. It's hot outside and they are in search of water and food. They tend to hang out near the waterways and are sometimes spotted a little too close for comfort.

Recently in Southern California, a coyote was blamed for killing a family's 10-year-old dog named Sally by going through the pet door inside the home. The homeowner said there was blood everywhere and their other dog needed thousands of dollars in surgery.

Coyotes are dangerous, wild animals. Seeing them in Midtown is not rare but it's concerning. The best thing you can do if this happens to you is to be loud. It may seem silly, but that's what you should do. The Humane Society calls it "coyote hazing," how to discourage neighborhood coyotes.

If you see an unwanted coyote in your neighborhood, you can report it online with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife here.
