SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — A sex offender was arrested after nearly crashing into a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle during a chase Sunday.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the chase started after a deputy saw someone driving recklessly on the Hammer Lane onramp to northbound I-5. The driver continued to speed when they exited onto Eight Mile Road and ran through multiple red lights.

The sheriff’s office says the driver hit a dead end on Trinity Parkway and made a U-turn before driving toward a marked patrol vehicle ‘missing it within inches.’

The driver lost control and overturned. He was uninjured.
