San Joaquin County K9 dies from heat-related injury, sheriff's office says

Deputies say K9 Brando was off-duty Saturday when he was found unresponsive.

STOCKTON, Calif. — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its K9 officers due to a heat-related injury.

According to a Facebook post, K9 Brando was found unresponsive Saturday and later died from what’s believed to be a heat-related injury.

The sheriff’s office says Brando was off-duty at the time of his death.

“An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking incident," the sheriff's office wrote in the post. "We are committed to thoroughly understanding what happened and taking the necessary steps to prevent such a tragedy from occurring in the future."

The sheriff’s office says it will provide more information once the investigation is complete.
