Multiple mountain lion sightings worry San Joaquin County neighbors

It's the third sighting of a mountain lion in San Joaquin County in a week.

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — A mountain lion was recently spotted in Lockeford. It's the third sighting of a mountain lion in San Joaquin County within the last week.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said Friday it received reports of a mountain lion near east Locke Road. The sheriff's office said reports have indicated two mountain lions may be traveling together, however, this is unconfirmed.

“We know that there is Mountain Lions in the area," said Heather Brent, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office spokesperson. "It is not uncommon for them to come in the area. You have got the Mokelumne River right here, so it seems like they are staying along the river.”

She encourages residents to be vigilant.

“We put the information out there not to scare anyone, we do not want to instill fear into our community. But we do want them to be aware." said Brent. "Our goal is to make sure that they do not come into the residential area. We just do not want anyone to be a victim or injured.”

People who see a mountain lion can call the sheriff's office at 209-468-4400, Option 1.
