Nighttime closures scheduled on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 in Sacramento are expected to cause serious delays for travelers, according to Caltrans.
The closures, scheduled for overnight Tuesday and Wednesday, are part of “emergency work” to repair part of the interstate, just to the north of downtown Sacramento.
The schedule for lane closures for I-5 are as follows:
- Northbound lanes 1 & 2 closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday. (No ramp closures.)
- Southbound lanes 3 & 4 closed. Richards Boulevard on- and off-ramps to southbound I-5 will be closed intermittently from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday.
- Northbound lanes 3 & 4 closed and P Street, I Street and L Street on-ramps will be closed intermittently from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
- Southbound lanes 1 & 2 closed from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday. (No ramp closures)
Caltrans is urging northbound drivers to use U.S. Highway 50 to eastbound I-80 and reconnect with I-5 to reroute around the construction. For southbound drivers trying to use Richards Boulevard, Caltrans says to use the J Street exit to turn around (from J Street to left on 5th Street and left on I Street to the on-ramp for NB I-5).
