SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Shamrock'n is back March 16 and 17. It's a well-known Sacramento event with fun costumes, live music and thousands of participants.
This year, there will be a Kid's Leprechaun Dash, 5K, 10K and half marathon.
Karen Henry, the event marketing director with Fleet Feet, says it's the 19th year of the Shamrock'n Half Marathon. She says it started as just a half marathon on Sunday and has expanded over the years to include a 5K and 10K.
Henry says spectators are welcome at Sutter Health Park and along the course.
"It's a big event, it's our biggest event of the year. It’s at least twice as big as any other event we do. This year we have just shy of 8,000 runners and we did sell out, and this is our 10th year partnering with the Triumph Cancer Foundation. We have raised just under $18,000 for them this year and all told in the 10-year partnership have raised over $200,000 for them," said Henry.
There will be traffic impacts Saturday and Sunday:
According to the race map, the 5K, 10K and Leprechaun Dash will happen Saturday between 8-11 a.m. This will impact traffic near Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, the Tower Bridge and downtown Sacramento. Here is a full list of traffic impacts for Saturday.
Henry says the Shamrock'n half marathon will happen Sunday, beginning at 7:45 a.m. and wrapping up by 12:30-1 p.m. The course begins in West Sacramento at Sutter Health Park, over the Tower Bridge to Old Sacramento, into Land Park, along Broadway and to downtown, finishing in West Sacramento at Sutter Health Park.
If you live in Land Park, here is where and when roads will be impacted.
According to the race website, people trying to get to Sutter Health Park should not try to drive over the Tower Bridge after 7:15 a.m. as the off-ramp to West Capitol Ave will close then. There will also be a place to check your gear and bike parking area on both days.
