SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — Two minors died after falling into a river at a campground north of Shasta Dam, Thursday.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded around 9 a.m. to the Chappie-Shasta Off-Highway Vehicle Area for a hillside collapse. The two minors were caught in the debris and fell from the hillside to the river.

Crews found the two minors in the debris, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. First responders recovered their bodies and took them to the county coroner's office.

The minors haven't been identified.

Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Teams and dive team worked alongside other agencies on the recovery efforts. The water flows from the dam were also reduced to help the recovery effort.
