Solano County man convicted of killing girlfriend because 'she did not listen'

Prosecutors say Troy Austin killed his girlfriend in Vallejo more than eight years ago.

VALLEJO, Calif. — A Solano County man was convicted Wednesday of killing his girlfriend in Vallejo in 2016.

According to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, a jury found Troy Austin guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Samantha Rhone.

Prosecutors say the pair were in a relationship for about five years and Rhone suffered from domestic violence.

On May 19, 2016, people around Wallace Avenue in Vallejo heard a woman screaming for help, looked out their windows and saw Austin kicking and stomping on Rhone.

Upon arrival, Rhone started to go unconscious but told officers Austin beat her. She was hospitalized and died from internal bleeding from her injuries.

Austin was found hiding in a neighbor’s backyard and gave officers a false name. He told investigators he “went psycho” and beat Rhone because “she did not listen.”

He’s scheduled to be back in court Friday due to a prior strike allegation.
