'We're all fingers crossed up here': South Lake Tahoe ski resorts prepare for snow season

While this weekend’s snow will probably be less than a foot, people are still gearing up.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — South Lake Tahoe is getting ready for snow season.

Tahoe Gear Exchange is about to start its second winter in business. Owner Andrew Zaslove is excited for snow.

"Fall is always a slow time in Tahoe. The seasons are the coolest but we definitely don’t have a lot of recreation going on, tourists coming into town. Winter really, really helps with intake and revenue. Winter is definitely our best season,” said Zaslove.

While this weekend’s snow will probably be less than a foot, people are still gearing up.

“In the last week, we’ve had a lot of people coming up, starting with the storm last week. People got really excited for winter sports (with) Heavenly starting to announce and showing all their snowmaking going on,” said Zaslove.

Snow making is well underway over at Heavenly Ski Resort, according to Peter Disch, the Vice President of Mountain Operations.

Patsy’s Run is already completely covered in snow.

“It’s looking like it might fall right in the middle. If you remember two years ago we got a lot of snow and it got really cold so we had an early opening. Last year it was a little warm in November so we opened a little later,” said Disch.

Heavenly hopes for a few more good feet of snow from mother nature. They are fully staffed and currently training employees. The entire city is ready and waiting.

“We’re all fingers crossed up here — as locals and tourists alike — that we get a good snow year,” said Zaslove.

Boreal and Heavenly are preparing to open Nov. 22, weather permitting. The price of season passes goes up Nov. 17.
