A fatal accident involving a FedEx big rig blocked all northbound lanes on Interstate 5 near Seamas Avenue in South Sacramento on Thursday morning until around 6:30 that night.

According to CHP officer Michael Bradley, the FedEx truck was driving on the southbound side of Interstate 5 around 6 a.m. in the rain. The driver lost control, hit the center median and crossed into the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, hitting a truck in the process, killing the male driver of the pick-up truck.

The victim was later identified as Elijah Jackson, 45, from Elk Grove. The driver of the FedEx truck was identified as a woman, but authorities have not given any more information about her.

Caltrans tweeted Thursday afternoon that two northbound lanes reopened, while one lane on both northbound and southbound lanes will remain closed for repairs.
