Silento's "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" song is this summer's latest dance craze and it has everyone moving – including a Sacramento police officer who was caught on video that has gone viral.
"I learned it from my kids. I loved embarrassing them, which I did a pretty good job of this time," Sacramento Police Lt. Roman Murrietta said.
It was last week when Murrietta danced the night away with south Sacramento neighborhood kids during Summer Night Lights -- a community event that offers free food, music and activities to under-served areas.
At a time of tense community police relations nationwide, watching a cop bust a move is a nice change of setting.
"This is policing," Murrietta said. "When we are out here, building relationships, getting to know people, having the community get to know each other."
In the video, Murrietta does not miss a beat as he keeps up with the kids dancing along.
"I think they're always initially surprised. Whether they're laughing at me or with me, it's something good," Murrietta said.
A positive image for many of the families – who often times only see one side of law enforcement. In south Sacramento, that often involves gangs and drugs.
"It demonstrated a lot of caring, I saw a lot of love, I thought it was beautiful," said Trahenda Royster, who witnessed the dancing cop in action.
While Murrietta didn't expect his dance moves to go viral, he said he was just having fun while doing his job.
"It's just another activity for us to get involved with the community and be human," he said.
