Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department warns generous public of donations scams

If you were planning on donating to the family of Dennis Wallace, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department wants you to beware of fake donation accounts.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department posted a message on Facebook warning people of criminals trying to take advantage of generous people. Deputy Wallace was killed Sunday morning while investigating a report of a stolen vehicle. Wallace was shot twice in the head, execution style.

The Sheriff's Department recommends donating to the link they have posted on their Facebook page.

A memorial fund for Deputy Dennis Wallace has been established by the Stanislaus Sworn Deputies Association. Donations can be made either in person at any West America Bank branch to the Dennis Wallace Memorial Fund or by mail at: Stanislaus Sworn Deputies Association, PO Box 2314, Ceres, CA 95307. Online donations can be made at https://www.stanislaussworn.com/donation.html.

"We truly appreciate the support the family and our office has received from people across the nation and thank you for what you have done," the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said in their Facebook post.
