California State Controller Betty Yee and her husband were btoh injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI (Marijuana) driver in Oakland on Friday.

California State Controller Betty Yee and her husband both suffered injuries in a crash with a driver suspected to be under the influence of marijuana.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Posey Tube in Oakland.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Yee and her husband were traveling in an unmarked state vehicle being driven by a CHP officer when they were stopped in the tube due to traffic. While stopped, their car was rear-ended by a Nissan sedan driven by a 25-year-old Aaron Ba Sean George.

The crash pushed Yee’s vehicle into the back on another vehicle, driven by an unidentified woman. The unidentified woman was not injured.

George suffered severe injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. Investigators suspect George was under the influence of marijuana and say he will be booked into the county jail once he is released from the hospital.

Yee and her husband were both transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The report did not state the condition of the CHP driver.

The incident remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call 510-450-3821.
