16-year-old facing charges in connection with Stockton social media school threats

Several police agencies have heightened their presence at schools to ensure students are safe.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A student in the Lincoln Unified School District is facing charges in connection with school social media threats.

According to the Stockton Police Department, schools both local and nationwide have been targeted by false threats posted on social media. Police said the threats were investigated but most were general and not directed at any specific school.

Ultimately, a 16-year-old student from Lincoln Unified was arrested due to making threatening posts on social media. Even though police said the threats were unsubstantiated, the student will be facing threat-related charges.

"It's crucial for parents and students to realize that making threats can lead to disciplinary action at their school, including potential legal consequences," Stockton police said on Facebook.

Stockton police, Delta College police, Stockton Unified School District police and Lincoln public safety have heightened their presence at schools to ensure students are safe.
