STOCKTON, Calif. — Two more people were killed and another injured in separate shootings in Stockton over the weekend, bringing the total to five killed since the weekend began on Friday.
The first shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday, near a McDonald's restaurant along the 600 block of W. Martin Luther King Boulevard. Officers were responding to a report of a shooting in the area. When they arrived, they say they found two adults in their 20's suffering from gunshot wounds.
A male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim, a woman, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
"There are no words, I just wish it would stop. I just wish it would stop. I don't want to see this anymore," Sarah Pearce, a Stockton resident said.
A few hours later, around 3 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to another reported shooting, this one along the 3000 block of Volney Street. When police arrived, they found a mother in her 30's also suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. This shooting marked the ninth homicide in Stockton of 2019. At this time last year, there were only five.
Police have not identified any of the victims in these two shootings. No motive in either shooting has been released nor have investigators released any information regarding a possible suspect or suspects.
On Friday, three people, two men and one woman, were killed in apparent Stockton gang shooting. David Connary, 19, Tiffany Connary, 18, and Remilio Castillo-Rivera, 18, were shot in killed around midnight, Friday, March 22.
"Just going back over the last several days we've seen an uptick in gun violence which has resulted in five people being shot and killed by cowards with guns. And that's what I'm going to call them, and they're destroying families," Officer Joe Silva, a spokesman for the Stockton Police Department said.
Five people have been killed in Stockton between Friday, March 22 and Sunday, March 24. Police call Friday's tragedy gang-related and it's unclear if the two additional weekend shootings are gang related. Investigators say these three separate incidents do not appear to be connected and multiple people are likely responsible.
Parents who live near the original scene, say they're tired of the violence.
"None of this ought to happen and I don't know why it's happened, but it's almost on every corner," Pearce said. "It's on so many corners and we're getting so used to it. That's the problem is we shouldn't be getting used to this. It's on all of our corners."
As police continue to search for answers, the Neighborhood Impact Team is planning to do a walk together around all three of the impacted neighborhoods in the next few days to open up the lines of communication.
"When there is that many in a row, the unknown is what people are afraid of," Jesse Kenyon, the Senior Chaplain for the Stockton Police Department said. "Great opportunities for the community to be able to come together, acknowledge the unity that we have in that situation and really have an ability to come together and say this is not OK. This is not how we want our community to be."

Friends and family have identified siblings David and Tiffany Connary as two of the victims killed early Friday morning in Stockton. The third victim, a friend of the two, has not yet been identified.
