STOCKTON, Calif. — The body of a Stockton man last seen Sunday afternoon was recovered from the Yuba River Wednesday.

According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called about a 20-year-old man who jumped into the Yuba River and never resurfaced.

Several agencies responded to search for the man, including a swift water rescue team, but they could not find him.

Then, around 5 p.m. Wednesday, deputies found the man’s body about a mile downstream from where he was last seen.

The man’s identity has not been released yet.

“We continue to urge residents and visitors to please enjoy the beauty of the Yuba from the banks and to resist the urge to enter the river. The water is currently extremely high, cold, fast, and far too dangerous to be in. We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the loved ones of the decedent,” wrote the sheriff’s office.
