STOCKTON, Calif. — Living with a disability already makes things difficult for Stockton resident Scott Alexon, but the past nine days have been downright infuriating.
"I'm really aggravated," Alexon said. "It's been rough. I haven't been able to take care of the stuff we have to take care of."
For nearly a week and a half, Alexon has been stuck mostly at home after the $4,000 specialized e-bike he relies on for transportation was abruptly stolen outside a grocery store on March Lane Aug. 9.
"It's my transportation from here to the store and appointments," Alexon said. "I was in the store. (The bike) was locked up. He broke the lock and took off with it."
Police eventually caught up to the suspected thief, 27-year-old Romeo Orr, the next day in the 3800 block of Hammer Lane. Orr was arraigned and appointed a public defender, scheduled to appear back in court Tuesday.
Despite the arrest, the e-bike is still nowhere to be found. Alexon's 18-year-old dog's critical medicine last seen inside the bike's basket is also missing.
"You buy that kind of stuff, that's not cheap," Alexon said. "When it up and disappears, you've got to put something else aside in order to replace it."
He's now hoping the public will help get his life back on track by calling Stockton Crime Stoppers or police at 209-937-8377 if the bike is seen.
"It took me a while to get the money together to get it. I hope people will keep an eye out for it," said Alexon. "I don't know what we're going to do about replacing it."
