Stockton woman dies in crash, family looking for answers

42-year-old Jessica Galvin’s death comes just after she learned she was going to be a grandmother.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — An Elk Grove family is left mourning after a mother of three died in a car crash Sunday night.

The family said 42-year-old Jessica Galvin was the passenger in a car that went off the freeway in Stockton, killing her and the driver.

“She was the type of person who would, if anybody did you wrong, she would forgive. She'd always be smiling and laughing,” said Vinita Jensen, Galvin’s mother.

Flowers and pictures sit on her kitchen table as she and her daughter Jenelle Elkridge hold onto memories of their loved one.

“You never felt left out or ashamed around her. She made every person feel like they were a part of her life,” said Elkridge.

They said they were notified about the crash Monday morning.

“We just felt like everything's… like time has stopped,” said Jensen. “It's like, you're going in fog, you know, just you're just moving to move, but you don't know what you're doing.”

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened Sunday evening when Galvin was in a car with a 35-year-old woman driving westbound on Highway 4 in Stockton toward northbound Interstate 5.

CHP said the driver lost control of the car, ran off the road and crashed into a tree. Galvin was wearing a seatbelt while the driver wasn’t and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The family said they’re in the dark about what happened and are hoping to learn more.

“Did somebody bump them? I don't even know if there were any brake marks,” said Jensen.

The family said Galvin was getting her life together after battling with mental health and other medical issues.

“Her life turned upside down for a while, and she was able to get help through everything,” said Elkridge. “She was trying to stick with it and mentor a relationship with my mom and mend her relationship with her kids. They were going all down the right path, then for this to have happened, it's just hard.”

Galvin’s death comes just after she learned she was going to be a grandmother. The family will see her remains Thursday and is taking donations for funeral costs on GoFundMe
