An Elk Grove police officer was injured while traveling to attend a San Jose police officer's funeral Thursday morning, according to Elk Grove police officer Chris Trim.
Trim said that two officers were riding in formation as they went to attend officer Michael Johnson's funeral when they came across a diesel spill at Grantline Road and East Stockton Boulevard.
Both officers lost control of their motorcycles while driving at a slow speed. One was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the other officer remained on scene, unhurt according to Trim.
Elk Grove public works' crews worked to spread absorbent on the diesel to clean it up. It was unclear how the diesel spill happened Trim said.
Officer Johnson was killed March 25 while responding to a call of a man threatening to kill himself. San Jose police said responding officers were met with gunfire Tuesday night and Johnson was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
