STOCKTON, Calif. — Hollywood Unlocked CEO and Stockton native Jason Lee is running for Stockton City Council.
Lee made the announcement Tuesday with a post on Instagram. Lee said he has an affection for his hometown and has been planning this for the last few months.
"Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed reconnecting with my community, creating engaging programs for the youth, and living among friends and family that I grew up with. I recently made Stockton my permanent place of living and realize that if I’m going to live here I may as well work to create real change," Lee wrote.
He graduated from Stockton's Stagg High School in 1995. In May, Lee proposed an "I AM READY" youth initiative as part of his"Hollywood Cares" foundation.
Lee previously said he would model his youth initiative in Stockton after a community organizing model, including youth-led after-school clubs and conferences.
"I look forward to returning to my roots as a community organizer, activist, and someone who cares about the future of my city," Lee wrote on Instagram.
Lee said he will be running for the District 6 City Council seat, currently held by Vice Mayor Kimberly Warmsley. Councilmember terms are four years and as of 2021, they are paid about $29,363 per year, according to the city council website.
District 6 consists of south Stockton.
