STOCKTON, Calif. — Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln has conceded in the race for Congressional District 9 against Josh Harder.
Lincoln, a Republican, left Election night in a tight race against the incumbent congressman. However, as more votes were released, the gap continued to widen, with Lincoln unable to make up ground. He trailed by more than 8,000 votes Wednesday.
A campaign spokesperson confirmed Lincoln has conceded the race.
"While the results are not what we had hoped for, I remain incredibly proud of the journey we’ve shared and the incredible progress we’ve made together. I want to thank every volunteer, supporter, and voter who believed in our vision for a stronger Valley," Lincoln said in a statement. "Our community has been through tough times, and we know what it means to rise, overcome, and continue moving forward. I remain committed to our community and our shared mission to make the Valley a better place. This campaign may have ended, but the work continues. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The Harder campaign had already claimed victory Monday.
"Tallying up every vote takes time, and with today's results, we are confident we've won. I'm incredibly grateful and honored our community put their faith in me once again," said Harder. "My family has lived in the Valley for five generations and fighting for San Joaquin County families is deeply personal for me. We have important work to do to make the Valley affordable again and I promise you, we won't be slowing down. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
