STOCKTON, Calif. — A pedestrian crossing Interstate 5 was killed after being struck by two vehicles early Monday morning in Stockton. One of the crashes was a hit-and-run, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 12:20 a.m., a 33-year-old man accessed I-5 south of Charter Way and crossed all southbound lanes, according to CHP’s Stockton office. He began crossing northbound lanes and entered the #2 lane where he was struck by an unknown vehicle at an unknown speed, CHP said.
The driver allegedly left the scene in their vehicle before law enforcement arrived, CHP said.
Authorities said the pedestrian was in the #2 lane when a 2017 Honda approached at approximately 65 mph and struck him again. The Honda driver stopped, CHP said.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and it is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crashes.
CHP said it’s asking anyone with information to call its Stockton office at 209-938-4800.
